This year, over half a million abused and neglected children
will navigate the child welfare system. Through no fault of their
own, they are currently unable to live safely at home. Over 18% of
these children are Latino, with the total number increasing every
year. One by one, nearly 58,000 Court Appointed Special Advocate
(CASA) volunteers are standing up to ensure that these children have
the best possible chance at a bright future. In some states, CASA
volunteers are referred to as volunteer guardians ad litem (GALs).
